So, after countless hours of credits and just general thinking things over, I've decided to start working towards a second major in Computer Science and being such a beginner at things, enrolled in CS 0007 for next term.
Since this is my first class in Pitt's CS department, I was curious as to what the computer requirements are -- I currently have only a Mac; does the CS department use programs that are strictly PC?
Thanks for any help.
I basically feel ridiculous asking this, but is there a way to look up my Peoplesoft ID online? I transferred to Pitt at the last possible minute, registered for the fall semester about four days before classes were starting, and got my welcome packet (which I know it was in) after the semester had like, started. I can't find it anywhere right now, and I feel stupid for not knowing it. :( Is there any way to find out what it is again? Or am I going to have to go embarrass myself publicly on campus.
I'm a freshman, and I live in a triple in Holland and want to GTFO of there. I do not drink/party/engage in any risky behaviors, but this is not my roommates' style. They are extremely social and have befriended almost the entire floor (in South Holland, anyway) and all of them go out on the weekends and have a grand old time. I'm more reserved and prefer silence, pretty much all of the time, which is why I'm having such a hard time adjusting to the whole 'living with two bubbly chicks' thing.
Since they overbooked the dorms this year, the only way to get out of your living situation is to leave campus altogether or arrange a room swap. So, if any of you hate where you are living on campus and my situation seems better than yours, please comment and maybe we can arrange something. :)
(EDIT: My friend's roommate just skipped out on Holland--shocking--so there's a vacated spot that I'm going to do everything in my power to take. Thank you for the comments, everyone!)
Hopefully, this is allowed.
I have one ticket for this weekend's Pitt vs. UConn game that I'm looking to get rid of. If you're interested, please let me know.
Just received this and thought I should pass it along, cut-and-pasted verbatim from an official e-mail...
First, the Frick Fine Arts Building will be closed from the end of the last evening class on Wednesday, September 23 until 7:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25 because of security restrictions related to the heads-of-state dinner to be held in conjunction with the G-20 Summit at the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens on the evening of Thursday, September 24, There will be no University access to that building during the time that it is closed.
Second, all classes on the Oakland campus that begin on or after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24 will be cancelled because of traffic concerns related to that same event. Normal class schedules will resume on the morning of Friday, September 25.
As the date for the Summit approaches, please check the University website for developing information.
...so there you have it. Not exactly the CCAC or CMU style cancellations, but one evening that I figured people would want to know about.

So I'm a newb here at Pitt, just transferred. I have a place out in Shadyside, right on Fifth. Does anyone know what bus I should take if I have a class in Lawrence Hall? Also, how can I find the PDF that lists what books I need for my classes? A friend of mine linked me to it the other day, and I lost it.
Thanks for your help in advance!

The Secret password to get in for half off on Sat. is.......
The Reverend Doctor Bubba Love sent me. Gets ya in for five bucks instead of ten. Your welcome! & spread the word!
The traditional home of Rocky in Pgh, The Hollywood Theater in Dormont, has decided to show it every 2 weeks, alternating casts between The JCCP and the new one, probably called The Other Woman, made up of a bunch of recent JCCP ex-pats, some JCCP veterans from the 90s [when they were internationally known as one of the best casts doing it], and whoever wants in.
we're thinking of running it pretty much like SOTMA in Morgantown, as a 'revolving door'.
Rocky debuts tonight at 11:30pm with no cast, at the request of management. next show will be Sat Aug 22, followed by Sat Sept 5. i think we want to defer the 22nd to the JCCP and aim for the 5th to give people the chance to get costumes and some props together.
Any Food Item [Rice, Hot Dogs, Prunes, etc. If you can eat it, don't throw it!]
The theater has been totally redone, it's brandy new and beautiful. Don't ruin it with food, water, or flames.
also, NO CONFETTI! you throw it, you clean it up.
...with your tongue!
if you can come out tonight in costume, sweet. we're allowed to jump up and do random scenes, just not a show.
if you want in, lemme know!!
if you know anyone who wants in, give me their contact info!!
I bought a house so I'm breaking my lease and helping my landlord find someone to take over the remaining part of my lease (and then you would be able to renew since I won't be returning).
This is for a 1 br apartment in Squirrel Hill, basically at the corner of Phillips and Wightman. The landlord is Stanley Weiner and he has always been very nice-- the only problem I've had with the place was that the fridge just stopped getting cold one day and Stan replaced it with a brand new one the day after I called.
The rent is $660/mo + elec (the apartment stays SUPER warm in the winter and heat is included!!) It is a first floor apartment. There is laundry in the basement for $0.75 washer, $0.75 dryer. Cats are allowed.
I can be out by Aug 23.
Please comment or send me email at my username at livejournal.com if you're interested-- I can send pictures or set up a time for you to stop by (I'm available most evenings and weekends).x-posted to pittsburgh
Is there some way to find out what your textbooks are for your classes, on the web? I'd like to obtain my books from someplace like half.com instead of from Pitt, and was wondering if I could go about this without having to physically go to the bookstore and have a awkward conversation which results in them fetching books for me to view, scribble down the codes off of, and then not buy (if I were working there, I wouldn't enjoy someone doing this).
I have been unable to find any sort of a list online, which puzzles me because community colleges make this really easy. Anyone have any suggestions? Should I just e-mail my professors and ask them?
Warning, long list. Don't scroll over if you can't handle it.http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/eve/1294783283.html

There's also INTERVALS at Shadow Lounge. Good jazz, so I hear.
ZEN has a SIN night, usually no cover, and they go until 3. Top 40/pop music, can be good

Oh, and this being the 3rd Sat of the month, there should be Pop Rocks at LAVA LOUNGE. Mod, new, dance music. It's pretty hipsterish, which means no crappy T-Pain Crappity Crap Crap, but some real, actual, dance music. Lots of skinny boys with glasses in girl jeans, retro cool girls, and people getting down.

Has anyone taken Japanese 1101: Basic Japanese Language 1? Who did you have?
I'm thinking about taking this in the fall, any thoughts appreciated.
This seems like a stupid question but I've looked all over Pitt's website. Where can I take my computer to be repaired?
I know this may be a longshot, but I'm looking for 2 tickets to the Conor Oberst show at Mr. Smalls tomorrow night. My girlfriend REALLY wants to see him but wasn't able to get tickets, so I figured I'd see if anyone was selling any! I've already tried Ebay and StubHub but didn't find any. If you or anyone you know has extra tickets, please email me (samantha.l.goldberg at gmail dot com) and I can give you my cell phone number. Thanks!!
WE NEED MONSTERS FOR A WEREWOLF BIKER FILM SHOOTING IN PITTSBURGH!!!
Any and all kinds of fantastical movie monsters are needed to fill in a party scene at the DUQUESNE INCLINE on TUESDAY JULY 7TH.
This is a non-paying gig, but there will be food and drink provided, and you'll have the opportunity to get credit on an independent film.
We'll be shooting Tuesday July 7th. Call for actors to get into makeup is at 7, call for actors already in makeup is 8:30. We start shooting the second the sun goes down. You must provide your own costume, but depending on the type of monster, we may be able to assist with makeup.
If you're interested, contact firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll hopefully get back to you same day.
Oh but please, no zombies? There are just too many damn zombies in Pittsburgh. No vampires either. I'm going to punch that Edward guy in the face.
